The DigiTech TRIO+ paired with the FS3X footswitch creates a comprehensive hands-free songwriting and performance station.  While the TRIO+ automatically generates bass and drum accompaniment based on your guitar playing, the FS3X adds critical remote control capabilities that are otherwise inaccessible during live performance. 

The TRIO+ listens to your guitar chords and rhythm to create instant backing tracks in 12 genres with 12 styles each. The FS3X connects via a stereo TRS cable to the pedal's "Control In" jack, unlocking three distinct operating modes that allow you to navigate song structures without touching the main unit. 

The bundle typically includes the TRIO+ pedal, the FS3X 3-button footswitch, and power supply. This setup enables you to record up to five distinct song parts (intro, verse, chorus, bridge, outro) and sequence them for automated playback or trigger them manually on the fly. 

The FS3X is not plug-and-play; it requires a specific "boot-up" sequence to select one of its three functional modes. To change modes, you must unplug the FS3X, hold down a specific footswitch, plug it back in, and hold for one second.

In this configuration, the footswitches allow you to move sequentially through your song parts. One button typically advances to the next part (e.g., Verse to Chorus), while another goes back. This is ideal for structured live performances where you need to progress through a pre-learned song arrangement hands-free. 

This mode prioritizes looper control. It enables functions like auto-start/stop for recording, loop selection, and overdubbing without interrupting your playing flow. It effectively turns the TRIO+ into a fully remote-operable multi-track looper, allowing you to layer guitar parts over the generated band tracks seamlessly.

The third mode offers a combination of functions, often allowing you to toggle specific features like the "Simple Bass" mode or switch between different song styles while playing. This provides maximum flexibility for jam sessions where you might need to alter the genre or intensity of the backing band instantly. 

The system operates with 24-bit audio resolution and a 44.1 kHz sample rate, ensuring high-quality backing tracks. The TRIO+ can store up to 12 songs with their associated loops on the included microSD card.  When using the FS3X, the signal path remains unaffected, though users concerned about "tone suck" from the TRIO+ buffer sometimes employ external true-bypass loopers in conjunction with the FS3X setup. 

Key connectivity includes separate Amp Out (for guitar signal) and Mixer Out (for full frequency bass/drums) jacks, allowing you to send your guitar to an amplifier while sending the generated band directly to a PA system.  The FS3X draws no external power, running entirely off the control signal from the TRIO+.
