The Mesa/Boogie Mark V 90 Watt Head paired with a 2x12 Rectifier Cabinet creates a highly versatile, high-gain tube amplifier rig.  This combination encapsulates 40 years of Mesa's circuit history, offering three independent channels with nine distinct voicing modes and selectable wattage per channel. 

The Mark V 90 Watt head is designed as a "collection of amplifiers" in one chassis. It features Simul-Class power, allowing users to blend Class A and Class A/B operation for a balance of headroom and harmonic sweetness.  A defining feature is the Multi-Watt™ Power system, which allows each of the three channels to independently operate at 90W, 45W, or 10W.  This enables players to achieve power tube saturation at lower volumes on the 10W setting while retaining full headroom for live performance on the 90W setting. 

The amplifier includes a Bias Select Switch, allowing users to swap between stock 6L6 power tubes (for a fatter, richer sound with high clean headroom) and EL34 tubes (for a brighter, skinnier British-style clip) without needing a technician to re-bias the amp.  The signal path concludes with a footswitchable 5-Band Graphic EQ, a trademark of the Mark series, which can be assigned per channel to shape the final output frequency response precisely.

The Mark V provides three fully independent channels, each with three switchable modes:

• Channel 1 (Rhythm/Clean): Offers Clean (tight and skinny), Fat (warm with added low fundamental), and Tweed (higher gain, pushed architecture).  It includes a Bold voicing switch for added mid-range punch.

• Channel 2 (Transitional): Bridges the gap between clean and high gain with Edge (British-inspired low/mid gain), Crunch (thicker, throatier gain), and Mark I (the iconic 1970s high-gain cascading preamp sound). 

• Channel 3 (Lead/High Gain): Delivers the classic Mesa overdrive sounds, including Mark IIC+ (blistering focus, popularized by players like John Petrucci and Carlos Santana), Mark IV (thick midrange gain), and Extreme (maximum aggression and attack). 

When paired with a 2x12 Rectifier Cabinet, the Mark V 90W head delivers a focused, punchy low-end response characteristic of the Rectifier series.  These cabinets are typically loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, which provide a bright, cutting top-end that complements the Mark V's high-gain capabilities. Users often note that the Mark V's robust EQ section allows for easy dialing of the V30s to reduce harshness if desired. 

The 2x12 Rectifier cabs are available in Vertical or Slant configurations and are constructed from marine-grade Baltic birch.  They are often equipped with Trak-Loc removable casters for mobility.  The combination of the 90W head and a 2x12 closed-back cabinet provides a "perfect match" for dispersion and tone, suitable for both studio recording and live gigging. The cabinet typically features an 8-ohm impedance, matching the head's output requirements for optimal power transfer.
