The Ibanez SRMS800 Deep Twilight is a high-end, multi-scale electric bass guitar from the Ibanez Bass Workshop series, introduced in 2018 and manufactured in Indonesia. Designed for professional and seasoned musicians, it combines premium tonewoods, advanced electronics, and ergonomic design for superior tone, playability, and visual appeal.

Priced around $999.99, the SRMS800 features a right-handed, double-cutaway body with a poplar burl top over a mahogany body, finished in a striking translucent Deep Twilight gloss polyurethane finish with matching headstock.  Its 5-piece jatoba/walnut multi-scale neck enhances stability and comfort, while the 24-fret panga panga fingerboard supports precise intonation and smooth playability.

Key Features and Specifications

  1. Multi-Scale Design: The SRMS800 uses a 33.5" to 34.5" multi-scale (fanned-fret) system, improving string tension balance and intonation—especially beneficial for low-B string clarity and punch.

  2. Tonewoods and Build: The poplar burl-topped mahogany body delivers a warm, earthy tone with a strong low end and bright top end. The 5-piece jatoba/walnut neck adds resonance and durability.

  3. Pickups and Electronics: Equipped with dual Bartolini BH2 passive humbuckers, the bass provides deep, punchy lows and clear, open mids. It includes an active 3-band EQ with a 3-way mid-frequency switch (250Hz, 450Hz, 700Hz) and an EQ bypass switch for tonal flexibility.

  4. Bridge and Hardware: The Mono-Rail VS bridge ensures maximum string isolation and sustain by individually mounting each string’s saddle, minimizing cross-talk and optimizing vibration transfer. Controls: Master volume, pan (balance) control, and active EQ with mid-frequency toggle. Hardware is finished in sleek black matte.

  5. Fingerboard and Inlays: Panga panga fingerboard with acrylic special inlays and offset stadium markers for improved visibility and aesthetics.

Performance and Playability

The multi-scale neck, while initially unusual, is praised for its ergonomic feel and quick adaptability. Players report enhanced comfort and natural hand positioning across the fretboard. The combination of Bartolini pickups and Ibanez’s custom preamp allows for a wide tonal palette, suitable for genres like jazz, R&B, funk, and modern rock.

User reviews highlight the instrument’s balanced weight (~8.3–9 lbs), excellent build quality, and versatility in tone shaping. The passive pickups with active EQ offer both vintage warmth and modern clarity.
