The 2023 Gibson Custom Shop R0 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue in Washed Cherry Sunburst VOS is a high-end, historically accurate reproduction of the final year of the original "Burst" era.  Part of Gibson’s “Historic Reissue” line, the “R0” designation specifically identifies it as a 1960 model year recreation. 

his instrument is built to replicate the specific nuances of the 1960 original, which differed slightly from the more famous 1959 models. It features a non-weight-relieved mahogany body topped with a hand-carved, bookmatched maple top.  The neck profile is the distinctive '60s Slim Taper, a fast-playing shape favored by legends like Eric Clapton and Joe Walsh.

Construction details emphasize vintage authenticity, including a hide-glued neck joint with an extended tenon for improved sustain, and a straight-line string pull through the bridge.  The hardware consists of nickel-plated components, including a no-wire ABR-1 bridge and Kluson Single Line, Double Ring tuners with green keys.  The electronics chamber houses CustomBucker Alnico III unpotted pickups, vintage-style CTS potentiometers, and paper-in-oil capacitors to replicate the tone of original PAFs.

The Washed Cherry Sunburst finish is an Aniline dye application that mimics the fading characteristics of vintage instruments. The VOS (Vintage Original Spec) treatment applies a lightly checked nitrocellulose lacquer finish that simulates the natural aging and patina of a guitar that has been played for decades, avoiding the heavy relicing found in "Murphy Lab" aged models.
