The 2001 Marshall TSL60 is a 60-watt all-tube guitar amplifier head from the JCM2000 "Triple Super Lead" series.  Often cited as a "bargain" on the used market due to mixed historical reception, it is prized by players seeking high-gain Marshall tones at an affordable price point.

The TSL60 delivers 60 watts of power through an all-tube signal path consisting of 4x ECC83 (12AX7) preamp tubes and 2x EL34 power tubes.  Unlike some contemporaries, it features a three-channel design: Clean, Crunch, and Lead.

Distinctive controls include a Tone Shift switch (which scoops mids for modern metal sounds) and a Deep switch (providing a tight bass boost).  The amp includes onboard spring reverb with separate level controls for the clean and overdrive channels, as well as a footswitchable effects loop with mix and level adjustments. A unique aspect of the circuit design is that the Crunch and Lead channels share the same EQ section, though they have independent gain and volume controls.

The amplifier is frequently described as having a modern voicing compared to the earlier DSL series.

  • Lead/Crunch Channels: These are widely regarded as the amp's strength, capable of producing heavy, saturated distortion suitable for hard rock and metal. The Lead channel can achieve very high gain levels, often described as "screaming."

  • Clean Channel: Reviews often note the clean channel is functional but not the amp's highlight; however, it responds well to external overdrive pedals (such as Tube Screamers) for blues and classic rock tones.

  • Volume: Despite being rated at 60 watts, the TSL60 is known to be extremely loud, often sufficient for medium-to-large venues without microphone reinforcement.

Historically, the TSL60 has garnered a reputation as "Marshall's most hated amp" among some purists, largely due to the shared EQ and specific voicing. However, this has made it a significant value on the second-hand market, where it is often found at a fraction of the cost of vintage or boutique alternatives.
