The 1997 Hamer USA Artist Custom is a highly regarded semi-hollow electric guitar known for its premium build quality, distinctive tone, and beautiful aesthetics.  Produced during the peak of Hamer Guitars' reputation as a "boutique" builder before the brand's original factory closed in 2008, this model is now a sought-after collector's item.

The 1997 Artist Custom typically features a mahogany body and neck paired with a carved flame maple top in a natural finish, which highlights the wood grain.  The semi-hollow design includes an "f" hole on the bass side, contributing to its warm, woody, and resonant acoustic properties while maintaining electric sustain.

Standard specifications for this era include:

  • Pickups: Often equipped with high-output humbuckers.

  • Hardware: Nickel or gold-plated hardware, including a Tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailbar.

  • Fretboard: Rosewood fingerboard with 22 frets, often featuring trapezoid or dot inlays and Italian grained ivoroid binding.

  • Neck Profile: Known for excellent playability, these guitars usually sport a "medium" or "slim" C-shaped neck carve, distinct from the heavier profiles of some contemporaries.

Musicians praise the 1997 Artist Custom for its versatility, capable of producing clear jazz tones, rich blues textures, and singing rock leads. The semi-hollow construction provides an airy quality that distinguishes it from solid-body guitars like the Gibson Les Paul, while the mahogany construction ensures a thick low-end response. The build quality is frequently described as "supreme," with straight necks and high-quality fretwork that often requires little setup out of the case.
