The 1960 Gibson Melody Maker Single Cut in Tobacco Sunburst is a highly sought-after vintage electric guitar, representing the final year of the single-cutaway body style before Gibson switched to the double-cutaway design in 1961.

The 1960 model retains the Les Paul Junior-style single cutaway body, constructed from a thin slab of mahogany with a one-piece mahogany set neck and rosewood fretboard.  It typically features large single-coil pickups (often compared to a P-90 in tone), a lightweight wraparound bridge/tailpiece, and vintage "gold top hat" knobs.  The finish is the classic Tobacco Sunburst, which was standard from 1959 to 1964.

These guitars are known for their resonant, lightweight build and chunky neck profiles, offering a raw, vintage tone at a lower price point than contemporary Les Paul Juniors.  Original examples in good condition are rare.

Due to their scarcity and historical significance as early student models, 1960 Single Cut Melody Makers command high prices on the vintage market.

Launched in 1959 as a budget alternative to the Les Paul Junior, the Melody Maker was designed with cost-saving measures such as simplified electronics mounted on the pickguard and a straight-sided headstock. The single-cutaway design was produced only from 1959 to 1960 In 1961, Gibson updated the line to a symmetrical double-cutaway body, making the 1960 Single Cut the last of its kind in the original form. The Tobacco Sunburst finish remained standard until 1964, when it was briefly replaced by Cherry Red before the SG-style body was introduced in 1966.
