The DigiTech Trio Band Creator is a guitar effects pedal designed to automatically generate bass and drum parts that match a guitarist's chord progressions and rhythm. By listening to the player, the pedal creates complementary backing tracks in real-time, effectively providing a virtual band. It features 12 musical genres—Blues, R&B, Rock, Alternative Rock, Metal, Pop, Electronic Pop, Hip-Hop, Country, Folk, Latin, and Jazz—each with 12 distinct styles, allowing for a wide variety of musical feels and grooves. The device can operate in either 3/4 or 4/4 time signatures and includes a tempo control that allows for speed adjustments without affecting sound quality.

The pedal uses a "Band Creator" function where the guitarist first teaches the pedal their chord sequence by playing a simple progression, typically using basic triads or 7th chords, and then activates the band to generate matching bass and drum parts. The bass and drum levels can be individually adjusted using dedicated knobs, and a "Simple Bass" button allows selection between three different bass line complexity modes. The pedal also includes a looper function, enabling users to record guitar parts with an unlimited number of overdubs, which can be played with or without the generated band. The loop volume is controlled by a separate knob, and the device supports recording loops up to 230 seconds long at 50 BPM.

The Trio Band Creator offers multiple output options, including an amp output for direct connection to a guitar amp, a mixer output for use with a PA system, and a headphone jack with its own volume control for silent practice. It features an FX Send and Return jack, allowing integration with external effects pedals, and a USB port for future firmware updates. The device can store up to three different song parts, and with an included 8 GB micro SD card (expandable to 32 GB), users can save and back up their recordings. While the pedal is praised for its innovative concept and utility in practice and songwriting, some users note a learning curve and occasional unpredictability in interpreting rhythmic feel, particularly for live performance.
