TheMartin 000-28EC Eric Claptonis a signature acoustic guitar meticulously crafted in collaboration with the legendary guitarist. It pays homage to the pre-war Martin guitar Clapton famously used during his iconic 1992MTV Unpluggedperformance, capturing its vintage tone and aesthetic in a modern instrument.
Design and Build
The 000-28EC features a000 body size(also known as Auditorium), offering a balanced, articulate tone ideal for fingerstyle playing and nuanced acoustic work. Itsshorter 24.9" scale lengthreduces string tension, making it easier to play complex chords and expressive bends—reflecting Clapton’s personal preference. The body is constructed withsolid East Indian rosewood back and sidesand abookmatched select spruce top, delivering rich resonance, depth, and clarity. The guitar includes vintage-inspired appointments such asherringbone marquetry,abalone inlays in a diamonds-and-squares pattern, and ahand-beveled tortoise pickguard. Clapton’smother-of-pearl signatureis inlaid between the 19th and 20th frets on the ebony fingerboard.
The guitar features amodified V neck profilemade from genuine mahogany, offering comfort and control. Combined with the shorter scale, it provides a playing experience tailored to Clapton’s style. Thedovetail neck joint,scalloped X-bracing, andgloss lacquer finishenhance sustain and tonal projection.
