The Digidesign Mbox 2 is a USB audio interface and MIDI interface designed for use with Pro Tools LE software, featuring two microphone preamps, analog and digital I/O, and a suite of included virtual instruments and effects. It is a 4-in/2-out device, allowing simultaneous recording of two analog inputs and two digital inputs via S/PDIF. The interface is USB-powered, making it highly portable, and includes separate volume controls for headphones and studio monitors, as well as 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. It comes bundled with Pro Tools LE software, which includes a comprehensive collection of virtual instruments like the Boom drum machine, DB-33 tonewheel organ, Mini Grand piano, and Xpand!2 synth, along with numerous professional audio effects and over 9GB of loops. The Mbox 2 is compatible with both Windows and macOS operating systems. Although it was originally designed to work exclusively with Pro Tools LE, it can now be used with other digital audio workstations on modern systems, including Windows 11, thanks to available drivers. The device is also supported on Linux through the ALSA and JACK audio subsystems, allowing it to function with software like Ardour.
