For decades, Larrivee has built acoustic guitars made for “affordable luxury.” But what about electrics? It turns out, they’ve been making them for decades, too! The Baker-T is the brainchild of Matt Larrivee, Jean Larrivee’s son and company heir. Matt is a self-described T-style guitar nut and has tweaked the company’s flagship electric Baker-T to perfection. The Baker-T is American-made, vintage-inspired, and built with love. A 1-piece ash body, a smooth rock maple neck, and a rosewood fingerboard offer the traditional look and feel of a T-style guitar, but just below the surface we’ve found tons of subtle upgrades and hardware selections that aren’t instantly visible to the naked eye. The Baker-T’s single-coil pickups are custom voiced with Alnico V and boutique Alnico VI magnets and coils hand-wound by Matt Larrivee himself. Other notable touches include ergonomic body contours, tone-boosting stainless steel screw inserts, Gotoh tuners with carbon fiber C-A-R-D mounts, and compensated brass saddles. While subtle, these differences make a big tonal difference when it’s time to plug in and turn up! If you’re chasing down a top-notch T-style electric that’s made in America, then the Larrivee Baker-T from Mom's Music absolutely deserves your consideration!

The Baker-T’s single-coil pickups are boutique through and through. Each pickup is treated to hand-wound coils and inspection approval from Matt Larrivee himself. In the bridge position, you’ll find a mighty potted Alnico V single-coil with hot tone and great response — great for twangy leads and beefy rhythm work. The neck position features a rare selection: a potted Alnico VI pickup. The Alnico VI recipe is close to Alnico V, but with boosted nickel content in the magnet that pulls in the character of Alnico 2. The result is a powerful neck pickup that enhances modern materials with a flavorful hint of vintage T-style guitars and their Alnico 2 pickups from the ’50s. To tie it all together, Larrivee adds premium support electronics: top-notch potentiometers from Bourns Pro Audio; vintage paper-in-oil capacitors (prized for their tendency to better with age); and traditional volume, tone, and 3-way selector controls for nailing a full range of T-style sounds in style.

The original T-style guitar got a lot of things right, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement! The Baker-T subtly enhances each aspect of the original design for big improvements in tone, sustain, stability, and playability. Unlike the original that was made to be cheap, mass produced, and easy to work on in the event of failure, the Baker-T is designed not to fail. Onboard is all the typical hardware you’d expect from a boutique American-made guitar, including a bone nut, closed-back tuners, and compensated brass saddles; but things get more interesting when you add in the Baker-T’s stainless steel screw inserts. Compared to typical hardware-mounting methods (drilling straight into wood, glue, etc.), these stainless steel inserts form a tighter bond between the hardware and the guitar. The result is a noticeable bump in sustain and response as well as more reliable performance over the years. The only hardware that doesn’t mount to these inserts are the vintage-style Gotoh tuning machines; instead, these tuners feature Gotoh C-A-R-D carbon fiber mounts that improve the action of your tuning machines while also keeping strings centered and aligned, even if a tuning peg gets bent out of shape from a gnarly fall or bump onstage. What’s more, look closely at the front and back of a Baker-T body and you’ll notice contoured forearm and belly curves. Whether you pick up the Baker-T for two minutes or two hours, these curves streamline the typical slab-style T-body for a luxurious playing experience worthy of the Larrivee name.
