The DOD Envelope Filter 440 is a reissued analog effects pedal originally designed in the 1970s and reintroduced in 2014 by DigiTech.  It's a dynamic filter pedal that creates expressive, vowel-like sounds and funky "quack" tones in response to your pick attack. Ideal for funk, R&B, and psychedelic rock, it functions as an auto-wah effect that sweeps the frequency band based on playing dynamics.

  • Analog Envelope Filter: Reacts to your playing dynamics, opening and closing the filter sweep based on pick attack.

  • Level Control: Adjusts the sensitivity of the envelope follower. Higher settings make the effect respond to softer playing.

  • Range Control: Sets the frequency range of the filter sweep—counter-clockwise emphasizes lower frequencies, clockwise emphasizes higher ones.

  • Up/Down Voice Switch:

    • "UP" setting: Delivers the classic "quack" sound favored by guitarists.

    • "DOWN" setting: Produces deep, sub-bass sweeps, making it popular with bass players.

  • True Bypass: Ensures your dry signal remains unaffected when the pedal is off, preserving tone integrity—unlike the original model.

  • Power Options: Can be powered by a 9V battery or a 9V DC power supply (center negative), making it pedalboard-friendly.

  • Durable Build: Lightweight aluminum chassis with a bright blue LED indicator.

The DOD 440 is praised for its responsiveness and versatility. Guitarists use it for classic funk rhythm tones à la Jimi Hendrix or Prince, while bassists appreciate the "DOWN" mode for dub and reggae-inspired sub-thunder effects. It pairs exceptionally well with overdrive and fuzz pedals, adding movement and character to driven tones.
