The Boss Katana-50 MkII (Gen 2) is a 50-watt digital modeling guitar combo amplifier featuring a custom 12-inch speaker and a Tube Logic design that emulates the response and feel of tube amplifiers while offering class-defying power, punch, and presence. It provides five distinct amp characters—Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown, and Acoustic—each with a newly voiced variation, effectively doubling the tonal options available. The amp includes five independent effects sections: Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb, each with three selectable variations, offering a total of 15 ready-to-play effects.

The Katana-50 MkII supports a Power Control feature that allows users to achieve cranked-amp tone and response at low volume levels, with settings for STANDBY, 0.5 W, 25 W, and 50 W output. This makes it suitable for bedroom practice, small gigs, and even larger performances when needed. It features a Power Amp In jack, enabling use as a powered cabinet for preamps, modelers, or multi-effects units, bypassing the internal preamp and effects. The amp also includes a USB port and a phones/recording output with mic'd cabinet emulation, allowing for direct recording with three Air Feel settings accessible via BOSS Tone Studio software.

The amp comes with four Tone Setting memories for storing and recalling custom channel and effect configurations, and it supports external footswitches and expression pedals via rear-panel connections. While the amp can be controlled directly from its front panel, full customization and deeper editing are achieved through the BOSS Tone Studio software, which is required to access over 60 different effects, adjust routing, and manage global EQs. The software also allows for importing patches from previous Katana models and sharing sounds via BOSS Tone Exchange.
