The 2021 Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay Special is a modern iteration of the iconic bass guitar first introduced in 1976, renowned as the first production four-string bass to feature onboard active equalization. This model continues to be the flagship of the Ernie Ball Music Man line, maintaining its solid roadworthy construction with a distinct oval pickguard, a 3+1 tuning key configuration, and the signature Ernie Ball Music Man humbucker. The 2021 release expanded the lineup with eight new finishes, including Raspberry Burst.

The StingRay Special features a roasted maple neck, which provides exceptional stability across varying climates due to its thermo-treated wood process. The fingerboard is available in either rosewood or ebony, depending on the model, and the frets are high-profile wide stainless steel, enhancing playability and durability. The bass is equipped with a custom-wound Music Man humbucker and a 3-band active EQ, now powered by 18 volts for increased headroom and a clearer tone. The 2021 models also include lightweight aluminum hardware and a sculpted neck joint for improved access to all frets.
