2016 Crews LED-1959
Crews is a well-known Japanese brand. Over the years, they have produced guitars of all types and
at many price points. The lower priced models were made by Deviser and were very well made
using good materials and woods and were mainly sold through the Musicland Key large music
retailer in Japan. To our knowledge, those models have been discontinued.
The premium priced models were and still are made by a small group of builders at the Terada
guitar factory (the same factory where the MIJ Gretsch guitars are built). Premium woods, premium
electronics and pickups and thin lacquer finishes are used. Crews describes their guitars not as a
pure clone, rather a guitar with modern playability and vintage tone.
K&T pickups are a high end pickup maker in Japan. They handwind all pickups. Sets of their pickups
sell new for between $1,000 and $1,500
The Crews LED-1959 model is their “top of the line” Premium version of a 1959 Les Paul. The specs
are as good or better than a typical Gibson R9.
