Gibson 1990 Pre-Historic Custom Shop '60 Les Paul

The 1990 Gibson Pre-Historic Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul refers to a rare and collectible series of Les Pauls produced just before the formal establishment of Gibson’s Custom, Art & Historic Division in October 1993. These early reissues are known among collectors as "Pre-Historic" models because they predate the official launch of the modern Historic Reissue line.

These guitars were built in the USA and often commissioned by select dealers (like Yamano Music in Japan) to exacting standards, featuring premium materials such as AAA flamed maple tops, long neck tenons, historically accurate neck profiles (slim taper '60s style), and '57 Classic humbuckers. They were considered higher-end models, often priced above standard production Les Pauls at the time.

Key features of the 1990 Pre-Historic 1960 Les Paul include:

  • Tobacco or Cherry Sunburst nitrocellulose finish

  • One-piece mahogany body (non-chambered)

  • '60s Slim Taper neck profile with rosewood fretboard

  • 22 frets, trapezoid inlays

  • '57 Classic humbuckers (some later modified)
