Fair condition. Has had a LOT of work done. See all pics. Headstock and neck joint repairs are the most obvious. Plays wonderfully and sounds amazing, despite that. 

The Vega C166 Duo-Tron is a rare and sought-after vintage electric archtop guitar produced from 1947 into the 1950s.  Known for its elegant craftsmanship and warm, rich tone, it stands out as a unique piece in the history of American hollowbody guitars. 

Key Features and Specifications

  • Body: Fully hollow construction with a solid spruce top and stunning flame maple back and sides.  The single-cutaway design enhances upper-fret access.

  • Finish: Typically available in sunburst or natural finishes, showcasing the beautiful wood grain. 

  • Neck: Slender-profile mahogany neck with cream binding, black side dots, and a bound headstock featuring mother-of-pearl "VEGA" and star inlays. 

  • Fingerboard: Dark Brazilian rosewood with mother-of-pearl block and single-dot inlays. 

  • Scale Length: 25", with a 1 9/16" nut width. 

  • Electronics: Equipped with a floating humbucker pickup (often with a dark tortoise or gold cover), master volume and tone controls, and a Veritone-style push-button tone switch for tonal variation. 

  • Hardware: Features Kluson Deluxe tuners, a trapeze tailpiece, floating rosewood bridge, and bound tortoise pickguard. 

The C166 produces a warm, resonant tone with strong acoustic projection due to its fully hollow design.  It excels in jazz, blues, and vintage rock settings, offering a smooth, articulate voice with excellent note definition. The floating pickup contributes to its unique tonal character, blending electric clarity with acoustic-like resonance.
